Close to MY Heart

Friday, March 19th, 2010

3 weeks ago I welcomed my second daughter into the world.  I’ve quickly had to relearn what life with diaper changes, late night feedings and struggling with tiny snaps on sleepers is all about, but it’s also been refreshing to be forced to slow down and appreciate the little moments.  Nothing makes you slow down like a newborn!

This is the reason for my lack of updates.  I’ve put my photography business on hold while pregnant and am not certain when I’ll pick up again.  Right now, I don’t think my sleep-deprived brain would allow me to explore my creativity quite as much as I’d like, but that’s ok with me right now.  I’m sure I’ll get into a groove soon enough…after all, there’s nothing as inspiring as watching human beings start from scratch.

A World Without WWW

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Say it ain’t so! But it’s true. My internet router at home has fried and that means I can’t submit print orders to my lab. So if you’re hoping for your prints this week, looks like it might be early next week before I can get them in.

I’m so sorry for the delay…how did we ever get by without the internet?

Theatre Archipelago ~ GTA cultural event

Friday, May 1st, 2009

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks with lots of sessions happening. I’ve got a backlog of portraits to sort through, but it’s happening. If you’re waiting for your gallery, take heart…I hope to have your sneak peeks ready soon.

However, it’s not all work and no play for me. In fact, I took an evening and attended a play this past Tuesday night. It was produced by Theatre Archipelago, called Our Lady of Spills. A good friend of mine is on the board of directors, and we had bounced some ideas around about how to promote his event. I was delighted to be in the audience and even more, I was amazed at how convincingly this play was put on. A very simple set, and just 2 actors, and yet the range of emotion captivated me quite completely. The script was funny, dramatic, and painfully honest. Lots of universal themes I’m sure everyone in the audience had experienced themselves. And the 2 skilled actors had impeccable timing.

I do encourage anyone within the Greater Toronto Area to see Our Lady of Spills. It runs until May 10, at the Papermill Theatre, Todmorden Mills.

The Gerber Baby Grows Up

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

I’ve been taking photos of this little guy since he was 6 months old. I first met him when he was all dressed up in his baptism outfit…you’ve probably seen him on my website. I thought he had the most classic baby face ever, so he carved a spot in my heart as a Gerber baby. I’ve since done a smash cake session with Mr. M, and most recently, we did a session to celebrate turning TWO! We splashed in puddles, explored the woods, and enjoyed a red lollipop for all our efforts. :)

Pretty snazzy rain coat and boots, eh? Mom has great taste in fun clothes!

Hair Salon for Kids

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

This technically isn’t a post about my photography business, but I thought it was worthy anyway.

Today we took my daughter to a local hair salon geared for kids.  It’s also run by a local Mom who deserves kudos.  I just love seeing mompreneurs thrive!  And we had such a great experience there, I wanted to give a little shout out to Sharkeys for Kids.

We took my daughter for her first hair cut today.  She’s getting close to 4 and we’ve never trimmed her hair.  She always hated us brushing or playing with her hair, so I couldn’t imagine a trip to the salon being at all successful.  Thanks to the Barbie Jeep and Dora on the Tube, my little girl got her hair trimmed and nails painted like a little lady. Our stylist was super nice, and we really hope this business makes it. It’s great to see a fresh idea invigorating our sweet, small downtown business area.

Maternity Workshop

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I’m really enjoying maternity sessions. I think in the future, I’d like to phase out of family portraiture, and go for maternity & newborns. I recently took a workshop that focused on maternity and thought I’d share some images from that. Out of respect of privacy for the model, I won’t show any shots with her face, but doesn’t she have a lovely baby bump??

This is the lovely and sweet assistant from the workshop…she was kind enough to pose near a window for this natural light shot. I love her quiet expression, and her dress had a wonderful vintage vibe which inspired the texture play here.

Maternity Albums

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Gosh, has it been that long since I last posted? Eek! So much for THAT New Year’’s resolution!

Anyway, it’s not like I haven’t been working. I recently revisited a wedding client for yet another major life moment…this time for maternity portraits!

Here are some pages from the album I designed for her. Albums are a great idea if you love a lot of images from your portrait session but don’t know where to display them all. A coffee table book or album is the perfect way to have a personal memento, or dare I say, a Digital Heirloom!
